Custom Essence Painting
I started creating Essence Paintings during the pandemic of 2020 as a way for me to work smaller, facilitate human connection, and exercise my intuition while I didn't have access to the studio outside of my home. The process of sharing these always serves to remind me of magic.
Each painting is made with watercolor, gouache, ink, and mineral pigments on paper. These materials allow for a fluid, energetic process and add natural texture and dimension to the final piece.
In order to paint, I will need the name or names of the people/animal/place to be interpreted and any additional information that you'd like to provide such as significant dates, character traits, favorite foods or memories. Email me with questions or to discuss commissions at a different size.

What do you tune into when beginning a painting?
For Essence Paintings - I use a person’s name to connect with their spirit. I also like to know something in their life that brings them joy.
Are there any rituals or tools involved in the channeling process?
I begin by tidying my space, lighting a candle, and taking a moment to ground myself through breath or meditation. My regular Qi Gong practice improves the openness I need to receive.
I experience sensations in my body that I allow to direct me to certain colors and forms.
How long does a painting take? What does it feel like?
I am disconnected from a sense of time when I’m painting. It feels similar to swimming with a slow-moving saltwater current. A combination of surrender, focus, and action.
Why watercolor, ink, and mineral pigments?
I love watercolor and inks as a medium for channeling because their liquidity matches the movement of flowing qi. I don’t exert force or strain in creating because when a painting is overworked it loses the quality of movement. The water gets absorbed by the special paper that I use and evaporates into the air, leaving behind a snapshot of energy in motion.
The pigments are made from mica — a glittering mineral from the earth. Bringing this mineral onto the paper gives the painting a three-dimensional texture that brings earthiness to the etherial and fluid nature of the rest of the piece.

Who is this offering for?
My work is for people who view beauty and joy as sacred and necessary. People who follow intuition and curiosity.
These paintings are meant for homes where their energetic function will be supported by the existing environment.
Do the colors or forms have meaning?
My role is to be a messenger of the painting, and I don’t usually translate them into language.
Framing & Presentation
I began offering smaller commissions during lockdown in Atlanta when I wasn’t able to access my studio and the galleries that were selling my larger work couldn’t have shows. It came out of a necessity to work smaller and ended up being a way to stay creative, tapped in, and support my community with an energetic offering, something joyful within the chaos.
